Filify 3D | $5,000 | Food & Waste
Filify 3D will help make the process of 3D printing on campus more sustainable. Typically, the fused filament ends from the printing process are thrown away, but this project will be selling these ends back to campus labs for reuse. Eventually, the goal is to expand the capacity to use recycled plastic water bottles for 3D printing on campus.
Stay Glassy | $3,631 | Food & Waste
Stay Glassy is ongoing project that has been working with glass bottles, which are abundant in Champaign-Urbana. The goals have been mainly to reduce glass waste and to work with underserved members of the community. This upcoming semester, the project will be starting up a glass repurposing business.
Red Oak Rain Garden 2.0 | $9,000 | Land & Water
This project will be restoring the Red Oak Rain Garden between McKinley Health Center and Allen Hall that alleviates flooding between the two buildings. Students, faculty, staff, and community members will plant new plants with flood protection. Benefits of the project include horticulture education, flooding management, native species planting, and training for the student group Red Bison.
Eco Illini Supermileage | $9,720 | Transportation
Eco Illini Supermileage is a team training and spreading sustainability awareness to other students through the construction of a very fuel-efficient car. SSC funding will allow the group to purchase the engine and other parts to help build the car.
Local Grains and Locally Processed Foods for Dining Services | $9,657 | Land & Water
This project will help provide locally processed grains to the university and the community. Involving the Vegetable Crop Farm, FSHN Pilot Plant, and Sustainable Student Farm, it will require the purchase of reusable grain transport containers and taste analysis equipment.
